Being a Breaker Girl involves much more than being a great dancer.
‍
We are looking for passionate performers, positive role models and proud ambassadors of the BNZ Breakers.
‍
The Breaker Girls perform at BNZ Breakers home games throughout the season and represent the club at selected community events, promotional appearances and activations.
‍
To make the team, you need to bring more than talent.
‍
You need performance quality, professionalism, confidence, commitment and pride in being part of one of New Zealand’s premier sporting organisations.

We are looking for trained dancers with strong technical ability and performance quality.
‍
Dancers should be able to learn and retain choreography quickly, adapt to different styles, and perform confidently in a high-energy arena environment.

Successful dancers will be part of the Breaker Girls for the BNZ Breakers 2026/27 season.

This includes:‍

For the 2026/27 season, this includes 14 home games at Spark Arena. Two regional games may also be required.
‍
Dancers are expected to be available for all games, rehearsals and approved appearances across the season.
‍
A small reserve team may be selected to provide cover for emergency sickness or unforeseen circumstances.

The Breaker Girls rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
‍
Dancers are also required to attend a court rehearsal on game day, usually held approximately three hours before tip-off.
‍
Attendance is extremely important. Successful dancers are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and arrive prepared.
‍
‍

Auditions are designed to assess performance ability, technique, stage presence, confidence, professionalism and team fit.
‍
Choreography will be taught on the day, so you do not need to prepare a routine.
‍
There will be no cuts on the day. All dancers will be notified of their audition outcome by email after the audition process has concluded.
‍

What are the Breaker Girls?
The Breaker Girls are the official game-day performance team of the BNZ Breakers. They perform at home games throughout the NBL season and may also appear at community events, promotional appearances and club activations.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
Yes. Audition applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Do I need previous professional dance team experience?
No. Previous professional dance team experience is not required. However, applicants must be trained dancers with strong technique, performance quality and the ability to learn choreography quickly.

What styles of dance do I need experience in?
We are looking for strong, versatile performers with training and experience in commercial dance, hip hop, jazz, cheer-style performance, acro and pom.
Performance quality, confidence and work ethic are just as important as technical ability.

Do I need to live in Auckland?
Yes. Dancers must be Auckland-based and available to attend weekly rehearsals, game days and selected events throughout the season.

How many games are there?
The Breaker Girls perform at BNZ Breakers home games throughout the season. For the 2026/27 season, this includes 14 home games at Spark Arena. Two regional games may also be required.

Yes. Breaker Girls are engaged as contractors to the BNZ Breakers and receive payment for games and approved appearances.

Is there a uniform cost?
No. All team costumes are provided. Dancers are required to supply their own hair and makeup products, skin-coloured fishnet tights and white sneakers.

What qualities are you looking for?
We are looking for dancers who are strong performers, professional, reliable, coachable, confident with crowds, positive team players and proud ambassadors for the BNZ Breakers.

What happens if I make the team?
Successful dancers will receive a team offer with information about rehearsals, game commitments, team expectations and next steps for the season.

When will I find out if I have made the team?
Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of their audition outcome by email before the public team reveal.
The Breaker Girls 2026/27 team will be officially revealed on Sunday 19 July.
